Cornerstone has pot luck dinners for members as often as possible, usually at least 4-6 times per year. At these dinners, members are invited and we join together for fellowship over a wonderful pot luck meal. After the meal we gather together in a room for a meeting and then worship and take communion together.
We had a Members Dinner last night and it blew me away. When I walked into the eating area {the basement gym} I noticed that double the number of tables were set up, soon they were FILLED. It was absolutely packed. Us long time members were all commenting about this being the most amazing thing!!!
After dinner the adults filed in for the meeting & worship. We were positioned in a circle with double rows. Pastor Bill stood in the middle to lead the meeting and was a bit disoriented and mentioned that he had no experience with “speaking in 3D!” He kept having to turn around to see everyone and wasn’t sure which direction to face while speaking! His excitement for the number of attendees was obvious and really cool.
As we sat I counted around the room and saw 67 beautiful faces in the room-knowing there were even more who were with the children.
Shannon was sitting next to me and whispered that she remembered when the 67 in attendance on a Sunday was great!
After the meeting portion, Pastor Bill shared some members {with their permission} who had deep prayer requests. It was a moving time as we stopped and prayed for each person. Here are a few of the deep concerns that were shared…
- A member’s 15 year old {9th grade} daughter is pregnant and she is trying to figure out how to help her. They just found out and the baby is due in Aug.
- A member needs a liver transplant and is on the waiting list.
- A member’s daughter is severely depressed with small children and is having suicidal thoughts. She came out to church for the first time and we are praying for her to find Jesus.
- A member has returned after falling off the wagon for awhile, what a praise this is!!!
- A member has decided to change her life and has moved out of her boyfriend’s home and is in need of a stable place to live as she attempts to make Godly choices.
- A member’s sibling is in the hospital with brain damage from a drug overdose and this is heartbreaking to him as he spends many days at the hospital with his sibling.
There were more, but those are a few you can pray for if you feel led. It is an amazing thing to sit in a room with such a diverse group of God’s children and hear hearts poured out. We are a family. What a blessing it is to be a part.
