Updated AGAIN ~ the detective investigating the case just called me to get my story and let me know that the man is indeed alive. It is really strange because word on the street is that he died and they even have a vigil set up down the street that clearly says RIP. Either people are totally clueless or covering it up for some reason. It also seems clear that they all know who did it but nobody will talk. So, the crime continues and continues.
Updated 4/10/13 ~ Sadly I just learned that the man who was shot did not make it. If you have already read the post below you will feel my disgust that the murder wasn’t even documented or mentioned. We had heard he survived, didn’t see any news of murder, but then saw a vigil set up down the street, Frank asked around today and found out that he did die.
It doesn’t seem that long ago that I wrote this post, telling about a shooting {that resulted in murder} that happened across the street from our house. That was way too close.
This past Sunday it got even a bit closer. I left church early since I wasn’t teaching children’s church and was feeling rotten. I went upstairs and sat on my bed, preparing to write in my Journible. I was just opening the Bible when the shots came, literally sounding like they were right outside my window. I heard screaming shortly after and then 6 more shots. By this time I was out on our back deck and then I saw him.
My texts to Frank, who was still at church…
He was shot in the chest, bleeding terribly, lying on the ground with others around him, in the lot behind our house. He ran down the alley it seems to get away and that’s where he fell. I called 911, as did many others around him from what I could see and hear. The police got here about 5 min later and they put him in the cop car to get to the hospital. The ambulance was at least another 5-10 minutes after that, way too long if you ask me.
The sirens intensified, the yellow tape went up and the chaos began. Frank came home, he could tell I was a bit flustered, he learned who the guy was and what happened {basically}. The guy seemed to be the intended target, which is good {sounds weird to call that good}. I just kept thanking God that no innocent bystanders got hit. The actual shooting happened right in front of the Fresh Start on the corner of Elkhart and Frankford {those of you who have been here, right by the bus stop out front of our house}.
I heard later that he lived, I was shocked to be honest. I pray for redemption, for a changed life, for him to be released from the life of crime he is probably involved in. Ironically, from what I can tell the story never made the news. Most don’t. Can you imagine this happening in a suburb, it would be all over the news. But here in Kensington, it is all too common, I suppose they can’t all make the news or it would be all we would see. The only existence I could find was on the Philly Police site with just a tiny fact about it.
All the more reason to pray for Light to be shed in the darkness that surrounds the inner city.
