Many of you have followed our journey for the entire {almost} 10 years we have been here! One of the exciting pieces to this puzzle is seeing children make great accomplishments in life. Graduating from high school is a HUGE accomplishment in our neighborhood. It is expected where I was from, but here it is a long shot. When a child graduates it is a big deal, since the dropout rate is so unbelievably high.
I’d like to share a few former God’s Girls with you that graduated this year. Almost all have moved to different areas and I keep in touch via Facebook, it brought me great joy to see their graduation photos on their Facebook pages!
Please continue to pray for these girls, and other girls who aren’t pictured. Graduating is only one piece of the puzzle of life, they have so may more obstacles to overcome. Most of all I pray for their hearts to be connected to the Lord in a huge way. I don’t deeply know the hearts of all of these girls anymore, I pray as you do, knowing God is there. Praying they let Him lead.
Tina…
Tina is amazing! She moved out of Philly with her family years ago but keeps in touch and shows up to visit every now and then. She is an amazing athlete and student and is the first girl to graduate high school in her family. She is on to great things, Trish and I have always seen this in her and are so thrilled to see this huge step accomplished!
Dominique…
Dominique lives a bit further away and is connected with a church closer to her home. She surprised me the other day and it was great to see her and hug her! She hopes to get a job right now and pursue college or some other training in the fall.
Kelli…
Kelli still lives down the street form me but we aren’t connected much. Her family doesn’t come to church anymore but are still very friendly when we drive by! I remember working with Kelli in the afterschool program and praying she would graduate someday. After many educational struggles, she did!
Quiana…
Quiana’s graduation is even more amazing as she had a daughter a year ago and still made it! I don’t talk to her at all, just on Facebook, but to see her overcome even with a baby brings me great joy.
Jamie…
Jamie is still at Cornerstone and I am very connected with her. She has grown into a beautiful, smart, and confident young lady. Jamie is planning to attend Holy Family University in the fall and is deeply connected with Jesus.
I haven’t seen Zakirra in years and she isn’t on Facebook. But a couple of months ago she showed up at church and came to give me a hug. She told me, “see, I listened…what you said mattered!” She looked beautiful and told me she was graduating from high school. I wish I had taken a picture that day, but I didn’t.
There may be more graduates that I am unaware of, unfortunately I have lost touch with several of the girls who moved out of the neighborhood. Sadly there are several who aren’t pictured because they are not graduating, and have joined the mass number of statistics in our neighborhood. Please continue to pray for these girls, pictured and not pictured.
