Reading Rocks ~ how it works Part 3

Another awesome day at Reading Rocks, we welcomed one new little boy today, which was perfect because we happened to be short on help today and it is difficult to bring in new kids with little help. God is cool like that and He knew we could only handle 1 new kid today!

Today began the prize boxes, an exciting feature of Reading Rocks!!! Here's how it works...

The kids accumulate points for various categories:

  • Reading (max of 500 points per summer)
  • Attendance (5 points per day)
  • Awards (we give out 6 per day, each worth 10 points--that's my next post!)
  • Bonus Days (silly things we come up with to give surprise bonus points for those in attendance--today was 10 points if you brought your head and another 10 if you brought your brain! :) )

As they accumulate points, we record them on a big classroom style chart, so they can always see where they stand. We also have prize boxes that the kids get to dive into when they accumulate certain numbers of points--75, 200, 300, 400, 500, 575.

Many kids got to go into the 75 point prize box today and it was a joy to watch them as they got all silly excited about little stuff! The prizes get better as the points increase, I actually have to do some shopping this weekend to get the bigger ones stocked up! If you would like to donate any money or a box of goodies to this, let me know!! We have always had enough but we are running low this summer!

For the next RR post I will tell about our special daily awards!
